April 2, 2010, Newsletter Issue #51: Travelling with insulin

Tip of the Week

When travelling, be sure to take along more insulin than you think you need, as pharmacies donīt necessarily carry every type of insulin. If you are travelling by airplane, place your insulin in your carry-on luggage--do not check it. It will be easier for you to control the temperature that way, as you donīt want it to get too hot or to freeze. Most pharmacies carry a case that is designed for insulin storage, or you can simply use a lunch box or other container with an ice pack.
